Faith and Trust: The One Seated at the Right Hand
Psalm 110 calls us to see that the victorious King has already taken His seat—our part is to trust.
Of David. A psalm. GOD said to my lord, “Sit at My right handwhile I make your enemies your footstool.” GOD will stretch forth from Zion your mighty scepter;hold sway over your enemies! Your people come forward willingly on your day of battle. In majestic holiness, from the womb, from the dawn, yours was the dew of youth. GOD has sworn and will not relent,“You are a priest forever, a rightful king by My decree.” My Sovereign is at your right hand—crushing kings in the day of divine anger. [God] works judgment upon the nations, heaping up bodies, crushing heads far and wide. My lord drinks from the stream on his way;therefore he holds his head high.
Psalm 110 is the most frequently quoted Old Testament psalm in the New Testament. Jesus Himself cites verse 1 to silence the Pharisees about the identity of the Messiah (Matthew 22:44). This Davidic psalm is also attributed to David, presenting the mysterious scene where the Lord speaks to the Lord's anointed, enthroned at the right hand of God.
